New Years is Overrated & Here's why
New year, New you ✨
Anyone else feeling pressure to reinvent themselves in the new year? It's so easy to fall into the hype and expectation that when the ball drops at midnight, all of a sudden you must enter your green juice, gym going, boundary setting hot girl walk era. And if you don't, you quickly start to feel like a failure as you watch story after story & reel after reel of strangers on the internet following the trend and overwhelming your feed with their aesthetic betterness.
As a burnt out baddie myself, I crave the space to be one of them. But their reality isn't mine. My days are messy and chaotic, filled with stress, laughter, anxiety and love. My self care is washing my face at night, online shopping then abandoning my shopping cart once I see the price and finding the time to blow out my hair maaaybe twice a week.
When I'm drowning in "I wish that was me" - I try to take a moment to remind myself of all the little wins. Like getting up in the morning, even when the days felt too heavy to bear. Going outside, even if it was just for a moment. Feeding my body, even if it wasn't the healthiest choice. I'm slowly learning to acknowledge my limits, even if it's after I've taken on too much. And this year, I acknowledged that January 1st wasn't going to be the day I added anything more to my plate. That my friends - is my self care.
Fireworks & champagne are a great reminder to manifest your goals for the year to come. But just like Valentines day, it's an opportunity to do something that can be done any day of the year. You can start chasing your dreams on a Wednesday morning. A random Sunday in July is the perfect day to start scheduling self care. Allow yourself the room to grow at your own pace. Your journey is exclusively yours. Remember, life doesn't limit itself to live by the calendar year - so why should you?
Anyway, here's a self care planner that I love but honestly, keep starting and stopping and hasn't been touched yet this year. Cheers to that & cheers to you🥂
